  • Security Alert: Suspicious individual spotted in resident’s backyard

We want to alert you to a recent security concern shared by one of our residents. On Monday, July 15 at 8:34 PM, a homeowner in Division 2 reported a strange man walking through their backyard. The incident was captured on their home security camera, and while they were not home at the time, they received an alert and reviewed the footage remotely.

The resident noted that their home is not on a main street and is surrounded by neighbors on all sides. They’re asking if anyone in the community recognizes this individual.

We urge all Ridge residents to remain alert. If you see suspicious activity or someone trespassing on your property, please take action immediately by contacting:

Your awareness and prompt reporting are key to keeping our community safe.

We’re excited to invite all Ridge residents to our annual National Night Out celebration on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM at the Big Park Pavilion.

National Night Out is more than just a neighborhood get-together, it’s a nationwide effort to promote community spirit, strengthen relationships among neighbors, and reinforce the connection between residents and local law enforcement and safety organizations.

We’ll be serving pizza and cold bottled water, so you don’t need to worry about dinner. We kindly ask each household to bring a dessert or appetizer to share, sweet or savory, homemade or store-bought, everything is welcome and appreciated!

  • A friendly reminder: Pick up after your pets

We’ve noticed more uncollected dog waste around the Ridge, and we’re asking for everyone’s help to keep our community clean and enjoyable for all.

We’ll be addressing this issue at the Annual Meeting on Wednesday, we hope you’ll join us. Afterward, we’ll send out a reminder with clear expectations:

    • Always pick up after your pets
    • Use the bags at our two pet waste stations (which will be restocked regularly)
    • Report ongoing issues to the Board—photos help!

If you see someone not picking up after their dog, consider speaking up in the moment, kindly but firmly. If the issue continues, please report it to the Board. A photo can be helpful in identifying repeat violations so we can follow up and take appropriate action.

We’re also working to understand whether the issue involves Ridge residents, visitors, or both, so we can respond appropriately without creating conflict between neighbors.

Let’s all do our part to keep the Ridge clean, respectful, and welcoming.

  • Hanwoori Garden is now open!

On June 10, the Korean community of Federal Way gathered to celebrate a milestone thirteen years in the making: the grand opening of Hanwoori Garden, named for the Korean word “Hanwoori,” meaning “We are one.” The new garden features a beautifully crafted Palgakjeong (traditional Korean pavilion) and a traditional Korean gate.

Hanwoori Garden is the result of a unique partnership between the City of Federal Way and its sister city, Donghae, South Korea. Nine skilled technicians traveled from Donghae to build these cultural landmarks, blending centuries-old Korean craftsmanship with modern U.S. building standards.

Located at 550 SW Campus Drive near Panther Lake Trail and the King County Weyerhaeuser Aquatic Center, Hanwoori Garden offers a space where residents and visitors can gather, reflect, and celebrate the rich heritage of Korean culture in our community.

  • Time to treat your lawn for chafer beetles

If your lawn took a beating this past winter, you’re not alone. Many Ridge homeowners saw widespread damage caused by the European chafer beetle—a persistent and destructive pest in our area. The damage may have started underground last fall, but now is when we can stop the cycle before it begins again.

Why it is important to treat your lawn now

The real threat isn’t the beetle itself, it’s the grubs. These white, C-shaped larvae feed on grass roots from late summer through spring, causing patches of turf to yellow, brown, and eventually die off. You might also have noticed raccoons or crows tearing up lawns in search of these grubs, often making the damage even worse

By June, adult beetles begin emerging and preparing to lay eggs in dry, untreated turf. That means the next generation of grubs is just weeks away from hatching, and now is the best time to prevent them.

    What you can do now

For long-term lawn health, mid-June to mid-July is the window to apply a preventive grub treatment. Look for products that contain imidacloprid, chlorantraniliprole, or similar ingredients labeled for season-long grub control. These treatments work best before eggs hatch and grubs start feeding again in late summer.

    Tips for success:

    • Apply preventive treatments now through mid July.
    • Water thoroughly after application to help the product soak into the root zone.
    • Follow all label instructions and safety precautions.

A healthy, well-watered lawn is also less appealing to beetles looking for a place to lay eggs. Mowing high, watering deeply, and avoiding drought stress can all reduce the likelihood of future infestations.

    Let’s break the cycle

By acting now, we can help prevent another season of damaged lawns and unsightly turf. If you’re unsure about which treatment to use or how to apply it, consider reaching out to a local garden center or lawn care professional for guidance.

This is an important opportunity to stay informed, get involved, and help shape the future of our community. During the meeting, the Board will:

    • Share highlights of accomplishments from the past year
    • Outline plans for the upcoming year
    • Review our current financial position
    • Hold elections for two Board positions
    • Open the floor for homeowner questions and comments

While seating will be available in the pavilion, feel free to bring a folding chair if you’d prefer to sit on the lawn.

What’s Included in the Meeting Packet:

    • 2024 Annual Meeting Minutes
    • Questionnaires from Board-approved nominees: Marcus Jackson and Rob Graf
    • 2025 Proxy Form

If you’re unable to attend in person, please print and complete the proxy form (found on the last page of the packet) and give it to a neighbor or Board member. Having enough homeowners represented, either in person or by proxy, is critical to reaching quorum and conducting official business. Your participation is truly appreciated!
