Big Park enhancement project update

Big Park enhancement project update

Your Ridge HOA Board has been hard at work implementing a multi-phase plan to enhance the beauty, usability, and long-term sustainability of the Big Park. We wanted to share an update on the progress made so far and what’s still to come.

Completed Improvements

Step 1: Reconstruct Tennis Court & Add a Second Pickleball Court
Completed – Summer 2025
The sports court was reconstructed, including the addition of a second pickleball court to better accommodate growing resident interest.

Step 2: Plant Trees & Shrubs at the South End of the Park
Completed – Fall 2025
Trees and shrubs were added to create a more inviting and attractive appearance at the south end of the park.

Step 3: Repair Cracks & Spalling Concrete on the Basketball Court
Completed – Two Weeks Ago
Concrete repairs were completed to improve both safety and appearance.

Step 4: Remove Grass from the South Edge of the Park
Completed – This Past Saturday
Members of your HOA Board, along with help from several homeowners, completed the removal of grass from the south edge of the park in preparation for future improvements.

Upcoming Improvements

Step 5: Irrigation Adjustments
Scheduled – This Tuesday
The irrigation system will be adjusted to support the newly planted trees and shrubs and improve watering efficiency. The south half of the park will be watered four days per week, while the north half will be watered two days per week.

Step 6: Weed Treatment, Hole Repair & Overseeding
Scheduled – Next Few Weeks
Our landscape contractor will treat weeds, fill holes, and overseed the south half of the park to improve turf quality and appearance.

Step 7: Repaint & Stripe the Basketball Court
Planned – June 2026
The basketball court will be repainted and striped to include an additional pickleball court.

Step 8: Mulch Installation at the South End of the Park
Planned – Late May / Early June 2026
Mulch will be installed in the areas where grass was removed to create a cleaner, more sustainable landscape.

Step 9: Master Plan for the North Half of the Park
Planned – Later This Year
The Board will begin developing a long-term vision to transform the north half of the park into a more natural and attractive landscape that requires less irrigation and maintenance than a traditional field.

Blackberry Removal & Natural Area Update

The HOA has also engaged our landscape contractor to address invasive blackberry growth in the area west of the park, beyond the playground and extending south toward the sports court. After treatment, the area will be cleaned up and monitored for future regrowth.

Earlier this year, the HOA surveyed homeowners regarding whether this area should remain a natural bio-swale, as recommended by our arborist, or be regularly mowed at significant cost. More than 80% of responding homeowners supported maintaining the area as a natural space.

The Board also considered planting wildflowers in this location; however, based on homeowner feedback and recommendations from our landscape contractor, we decided not to move forward due to concerns about overgrowth and seeds spreading into neighboring properties.

We Welcome Your Feedback

Your HOA Board welcomes your feedback and any questions you may have. If you would like to discuss these improvements in more detail, please join us at the HOA Annual Meeting at 6:00 PM on July 8th at the Big Park pavilion.

We appreciate everyone’s support and look forward to continuing improvements that make the Ridge an even better place to live.
